What is Top Tens?

Top Tens is a football list game: one top-ten ranking, ten blanks, and as many guesses as you need to fill them. All-time goalscorers, most-capped players, record transfers. The first four or five names usually come quickly, and then the puzzle really starts.

How to play Top Tens

  1. Each puzzle is a football top-10 list (e.g. 'Top 10 Premier League All-Time Goalscorers').
  2. Type a name into the input. Correct guesses reveal the entry at its rank position.
  3. Fuzzy matching: 'Shearer' matches 'Alan Shearer'; 'Aguero' matches 'Sergio Agüero'.
  4. Find as many as you can. Hit 'Give Up' to reveal the remaining answers.
  5. Score: 1-2 found = 1pt, 3-4 = 2, 5-6 = 3, 7-8 = 4, 9 = 5, all 10 = Jackpot (8pts).

Top Tens strategy

Take the free hits first and do not stall on rank order — the game places names at their correct position for you, so you never need to know whether someone is sixth or seventh. Once the household names are in, switch strategies: instead of scanning for great players, scan for the profile the list rewards. All-time appearance lists favour one-club servants, goalscoring lists favour players who stayed in one league for a decade, and both are full of names that were never famous outside their own supporters.
